SIG015Calibre – Let Me Hold You/Love’s Too Tight Too Mention (Signature)
A very welcomed release from the Belfast production wonder that is Calibre. ‘Let Me Hold You’ gives us warm and delicate keys which come together with instantly recognizable Calibre breaks and his own vocals. A track to warm your cockles in these coming Autumn months. ‘Love’s Too Tight To Mention’ kick starts with an epic intro of atmosphere, staccato’d strings which easily lulls you into a laid back groove with subtle vocals from DRS. A perfect set starter yet again from Calibre.
SOULR042ST Files – Crackden/Fatsoul (Soul:R)
‘Crackden’ is a track which has been causing quite a stir amongst the scene and various forums. ‘Crackden’ comes in with a grimey md-range and dub vocal. When it drops it will please fans of drum and bass as well as dubstep. The groove maybe set at 175bpm, but it definitely has a much more laid back feel to it. An excellent choice for the shoe gazers and those wanting a breather. ‘Fatsoul’ introduces itself with sparse, delayed hats and atmospherics which soon drops into classic Bukem territory with it’s rolling drums and sawing strings aplenty. If you’re a fan of Furney’s ‘Pipez’ then I’d seriously suggest checking this release.
BLIND013Marcus Intalex – Konspiracy/Poledancer (Blindside)
‘Konspiracy’, which seems to have been on Soul:R’s head honchos’ myspace player for a decade, plays on Intalex’s Detroit sound. An intro of swirls causes you to think this may be an all out smooth affair, but the breakdown soon switches the vibe with it’s crescendo of snarling synths. From the drop the track progresses with various hats and percussion making guest appearances and gradually calms itself back to where it began. ‘Poledancer’ is a dubbed out release from Intalex which screams influences from ‘Mistical Dub’, Visionary’s ‘She Makes Me Feel’ and Break’s ‘Come & Get It’. An all round excellent release from one of the scene’s most forward thinking producer/DJ.
CIADK021Mutt feat. Kevin King – Conversations/Invitation (CIA Deep Kut)
Mutt raises the ante ten fold for The Proclaimers on this release by exclaiming he is willing to walk 10,000 miles for your love. A beautiful release with one of the smoothest vocals of the year alongside gentle keys which tinker away in the mix with a simplistic break. But that is all you need. The flip features more of the same which does not disappoint. An essential release for fans of the lighter side of life.
