kushtikushti in training

Radio Frequency’s very own DJ Kushti will be taking part in a charity hike of the Pennine Way, raising money for the Ed Evans Foundation. This registered charity was set up by Ed Evans during his long fight against brain cancer. Kushti got to know Ed through his good friend Mark, who had met Ed when they joined the Royal Navy in 2001.

Ed was training as a Navy clearance diver but was unfortunately diagnosed with a brain tumour after suffering from severe headaches. Although his career in the Navy was over, this did not deter Ed from living his life to the full. The Foundation was set up in support of Cancer Research Wales, specifically brain tumour research after the help and support he received during his treatment.

Unfortunately Ed lost his battle with the disease in October 2007, he was 27 years old.

Two years after the news of Ed's death, Mark and Kushti have taken the opportunity to come together and raise money for the foundation in his memory. Both being avid hikers who love the outdoors, they've decided to tackle one of Britain’s most challenging long distance walks: The Pennine Way.

The trail covers 268 miles from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm on the Scottish border and involves some serious mileage over arduous terrain. Their aim is to complete the trek in 16 stages over as many days between 26th Sept and 11th Oct 2009. Up to now the foundation has raised £85,000 for Cancer Research. They aim to raise as much as they can for this worthwhile cause but have set an achievable target of £1,000 to start.

We wish them the best of luck and a safe journey.
